Quit Hiding Yourself & Be Safe

August 21, 2005 / by psychovirus

Fourth child in a family. Victims of abuse of all kinds. Children of families under great stress. All these people have one thing in common. They hide themselves. Mostly they hide themselves out of self-defense. The fourth child in a family has been picked on, put down, and generally made to feel worthless. Thus it becomes safer to hide themselves. Victims of abuse want to get away from the abuse as well as the abuser. Therefore they feel safer hiding themselves. Children of families under stress are most likely to be the victims of some form of abuse so they fall in the same category as victims of abuse.

All these people hide themselves to feel safe They learned it early on in life as a defense. As adults they no longer have cause to hide themselves but their memories have the program running anyway. So forget the memories that make you hide yourself. You do not have to hide yourself for safety anymore. You have found ways to be safe other than hiding. Now that you forget the memories that make you hide yourself, you can use these other ways instead.

What is hiding yourself? It is acting. People put on an act, they behave like someone else, in order to escape from feeling unsafe. They may choose to act like one of their parents. Or they may take on the behaviors of one of their siblings. Either way, they are not being themselves. They are hiding themselves.

There are times when it is acceptable, even desirable, to act like someone else. Heaven forbid that you should be kept out of the community theater because you suddenly could not act. So remember the memories that let you hide yourself. You have a wealth of memories that your subconscious mind will use which will allow you to choose when to hide yourself or choose to not hide yourself. This is quite liberating!

In your relationships, you've been hiding yourself from all those you care about. Since you will be yourself, you will be better accepted by most with whom you relate.

Let's go on to the root cause of this behavior. Being safe. Remember, the reason for hiding yourself is to be safe. It is possible that you are still in a situation that makes you feel unsafe. Is it okay to be safe? What was you answer? No? Surprised? It is common to answer no to that question if you feel unsafe. You might not even be aware that you feel that way. Yet, subconsciously you do.

It's time to change the programming. Forget the memories that make you safe. This eliminates the effects of the initial memories which have forced you to feel safe only in those ways that you knew when these memories were created. There were, at least, moments when you felt safe throughout your life. The memories of these moments were not allowed to direct your behavior, though. Your subconscious mind stored these but still operated out of the initial memories. Forget the memories that make you safe breaks the mold, so to speak. Your subconscious mind is instructed to stop using the initial memories.

Now, remember the memories that let you be safe. This redirects your subconscious mind to make use of the memories of those moments that you felt safe. This allows you to be safe/feel safe in many more ways than you have before.

Now that you will no longer hide yourself, now that you will feel safe, what are you going to do? Are you going to take up some dangerous activity? You will not if you would not have before. No, the result of this is that you enjoy your life. You find your way out of dangerous situations rather than staying in them. Be safe! As yourself!
