A Life Of Pain

August 18, 2005 / by psychovirus

Pain. It slows you down. It causes suffering. It costs money in lost energy, time, and work. It keeps you from doing what you want. It keeps you from doing what you can. Pain. It is the common denominator that levels all players when they get injured. It cannot be avoided. It takes your breath away. It slows you down.

What can you do about pain? The pharmaceutical companies have plenty of answers. They will sell you aspirin, Tylenol, ibuprofen, Aleve, or any number of pain blocking medications. That is the point: they only block pain, they do not put an end to it. There is a way to put an end to most if not all of your pain. You want to know what it is, don't you?

First, for something that appears to be completely different. Memories are that which guides your behavior. This has been mentioned before. However, memories cause us to react differently than we might otherwise. When you were young, someone told you "Oh, you must not feel that way!" Only you knew how you felt. There was nothing wrong with your feelings. BUT, because of the memory of this experience, you spent the rest of your life hiding your feelings. Another memory: you fell. You scraped your knee. Your mother took care of it for you. She put some ointment on it. It hurt! You said so. She said "Oh, that cannot hurt. It is suppose to make you feel better."

Both of these memories impact how you deal with hurts as well as pain. Emotional pain is something you hide from yourself. Physical pain will not be denied. Emotional pain that is hidden results in physical pain which may even keep you up all night. This memory guidance will have to change to change how you deal with pain of all kinds. So, forget the memories that make you hide your pain. No more will your memories direct you to hide pain until it pops out in various parts of your body. The memories that caused this will no longer be controlling your behavior. The reprogramming is being done even now.

Even so, there are times when it could be imperative to hide your pain. The pain could be emotional, physical, or from other causes. An example of such a time: someone you love is going to receive very bad news. You are the person asked to be the messenger. The news hurts you terribly, too! Yet, you do not want to add to the pain your friend will experience. Therefore, you will want to hide your pain. To be sure that you are able appropriately, remember the memories that let you hide your pain. Thus, if such an occasion does arise, you will be able to hide your own pain to spare your loved one.

The overall result of this is that you will cease to hide your emotional hurts. Now you will be able to deal with them, not bury them inside. Your physical pains will diminish into nonexistence. The pharmaceutical companies will stop making a fortune from your purchases of pain medication! All the best to all of you who hurt.
