Addictions are powerful. They keep us attached to a chemical, person, relationship, place, action, behavior, or thing. We are dependent. What causes us to be dependent is that we want the chemical, person, etc. to make us feel good. The first time we tried it, it did make us feel good. Therefore, we continue to use the chemical, person, relationship, or thing in the vain hope that they or it will make us feel good again and again and again. The unfortunate truth is that whatever we are addicted to does not make us feel as good as the first time we tried it. We are searching futilely for something we are not going to get.
If any of us are ever going to feel good, we had best forget the memories that make us feel good. We are dependent on memories that tell us that there are only certain ways that we can feel good. If we cannot find ourselves feeling good from those limited ways, we do not ever feel good. Once we forget the memories that make us feel good, the limitations of those memories are eliminated.
Then if we remember the memories that let us feel good, we are able to feel good in all the ways that we have ever experienced in our lives. This gives all of us a much broader range of ways that we can choose to feel good. None of us have to do certain things, be around certain people, or be in specific relationships in order to find ourselves feeling good. Just a quiet relaxing afternoon alone can be enough to make us feel good!
Feeling good is for everybody! You no longer HAVE to have something to make it happen. Try it out!
