Additional Help For Angry Bosses

August 14, 2005 / by psychovirus

Here''s some additional insight into bosses who are angry.

People in general who are angry a lot are doing what they can to hide other emotions. They do not want to have to deal with them. Therefore, the most successful mask is to be angry. The stronger the emotions that they are seeking to suppress, the angrier they will be. This process of hiding emotions has a negative effect on thinking. If someone is angry to hide emotions, they are not able to think clearly or effectively.

Not thinking clearly leads to many different problems. Conflicts are not resolved appropriately. Personnel issues are not settled to anyone''s satisfaction as the boss isn''t thinking clearly. Possibly the boss will just get angry and order everyone out of his or her office. This is just the tip of the iceberg but you can see that the angry boss is not as effective as she or he should be.

What can you (or anyone) do? Tell your boss to never get so interested in feeling that you forget to think. Your boss might look at you strangely or he or she may have a blank stare for a few seconds. Either way, you''ve made all the difference in your boss.

The effect of this statement is that your boss has had her or his mind reprogrammed. Now whenever he or she has a feeling (that would normally be suppressed) she or he will start to think rather than get angry. The result? You''ll have a boss that functions far, far better than before. Problems/issues are resolved successfully. You may find that your boss is quite logical in dealing with issues, but this is a vast improvement over being angry all the time.

Not only will this change the behavior of your boss at work, it will change his or her behavior in all aspects of her or his life.
